What is The Metis Institute?
The Metis Institute is a UK psychotherapy and counselling training institute rooted in Transactional Analysis, and extended through Jungian depth psychology, embodied practice, movement, and arts-based methods.
What do you mean by “Depth TA”?
Depth TA is the way we teach and practise Transactional Analysis when we take the unconscious seriously, and refuse to reduce psychotherapy to technique. It integrates TA with Jungian and archetypal psychology, alongside body-based and arts-based methods, in a rigorous, relational, and experiential approach. Read more about it or book our free event What is Depth TA?
Who is your training for?
You may be a fit if you are a career changer moving towards counselling or psychotherapy with seriousness and curiosity, an early-career helper seeking a rigorous clinical pathway, or a beginner who wants structure without losing psychological complexity.
What is the first step into your training pathway?
TA101 is the first step. It provides a shared TA language and an internationally recognised foundation, and it is required before progressing into the Foundation Year certificate described on our training pathway. Book your TA101 here.
What is the Foundation Year (Training Year 1)?
Training Year 1 is the Depth Transactional Analysis Theory Certificate. It is a standalone foundation year and the first substantial step into TA psychotherapy training, integrating core TA theory with embodied awareness, movement, and creative practice, alongside an introduction to Jungian Analytical Psychology. Read more about it here.
What happens in Training Years 2 and 3?
Training Years 2 and 3 form the Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling. The programme supports the transition from theory into confident clinical practice, with a relational, embodied, and depth-informed focus, including attention to conscious and unconscious dynamics, countertransference, enactments, and bodily responses. Read more about it here.
What is Training Year 4?
Training Year 4 is an advanced diploma year focused on complexity, containment, and clinical maturity, integrating TA with depth and archetypal psychology, and arts-based and movement-informed clinical methods, with an emphasis on diversity, ethics, and therapeutic presence. Read more about it here.
Where does training take place, and do you offer a residential option?
The institute offers in-person training near Gatwick Airport at Worth School in West Sussex, with a residential option mentioned on the main site. See where we are on the map.
How do I find dates for TA101, open evenings, and training start points?
Use the Calendar page to view upcoming TA101 dates, open days/open evenings, and training start points.
How do I decide whether this approach is right for me?
A practical way to orient is to read the Depth TA approach (to understand the model), review the training pathway (to understand the structure and requirements), and attend an open evening, What is Depth TA? free event, or the TA101 (to sense the teaching culture and relational tone).
